The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is seeking applications for candidates for the position of Engineer Trainee Transportation (ETT), Electrical. Engineer Trainees are assigned a 40 - hour work week.
Current starting salary is $64,264 and $66,7398 after six months. Standard workweek is Monday through Friday.
The Department of Transportation (DOT) currently offers a telework pilot program, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work at your primary residence outside of your assigned DOT work location. This program
does not supersede the "New Jersey First Act", which requires newly hired NJDOT employees to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey.
Operations Support (Ewing)
The Division of Operation Support serves as the dynamic backbone of our NJDOT Maintenance infrastructure initiatives, orchestrating every aspect of maintenance engineering planning and maintenance construction valued at over $300M per year. From crafting contract plans and specifications, to analyzing bid pricing and consultant agreements to manage statewide maintenance construction contracts, our team, ensures that our projects keep New Jersey's roadway signs, bridges, tunnels, electrical assets, and drainage in a state of good repair.
Electrical Administration:
Imagine the opportunity to accomplish the execution in modernizing our High Intensity Discharge (HID) Lighting load centers (+1,200) to energy efficient LED fixtures. Create opportunities to lessen the reliance and dependence on the
antiquated power grid by installing stand - alone solar applications which would lessen our carbon footprint and lead New Jersey towards being carbon neutral. In addition, as support to our Regional Operations teams, we assist in design aspects for fast paced emergency repairs when needed. Dive into the heart of NJDOT's maintenance operations and engineering with us, where you'll play a pivotal role in improving lives by improving transportation.
Work Description: Appointee will assist in the preparation of electrical engineering designs, conduct reviews and field investigations as required for new and replacement ITS facilities such as Dynamic Message Signs, Traffic Cameras, Traffic Sensors, Radar Detectors, Wrong Way Driving Detection Systems, material approvals for all ITS construction projects.
Duties will involve both field and office work.
REQUIREMENTS
Degree: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Note: Possession of a valid Professional Engineer's License issued by the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
Note: An Engineer - In - Training (EIT) certification issued by the Division of Consumer Affairs, New Jersey Office of the Attorney General may be substituted for the above education requirement. Applicants must submit proof of the EIT
certification and the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam results. The area of discipline indicated on the FE exam results (e.g., Civil, Electrical and Computers, Chemical, Industrial and Systems, Environmental, Mechanical, and Other
Disciplines) must be appropriate to the position.
