IT Development- Paid, Part-time Work Experience- Student Program (Wayne, PA) Summer (apply at usli.com/students)

The USLI College Student Program connects students to a variety of opportunities at our company. We employ around 200 college students year-round and approximately 240 during the summer. Our goal is to provide students with meaningful work experiences that prepare them for their next professional step, as well as the chance to explore a career in the insurance industry.

We require our students to be enrolled in at least 6 credits per semester at a 2- or 4-year college/university. You must be available to work at least 12 hours each week and at least 4 hours on any given day that you choose to work. We have no GPA or major requirement, and our pay rate is $20 per hour.

We are looking for students that are team oriented, hard-working and motivated. We focus heavily on our CARE2 values – looking for candidates that are caring, have a good attitude, are respectful, energetic, and empathetic. Our students need to be coachable and are expected to give 100%.

On the Development- Information Technology team, we are looking for individuals who take initiative and act independently to research and resolve problems. The students should have exceptional verbal and written communication skills interacting with people who have no technical training as well as with those that do have a technical background.

What specific skills are you looking for?

  • No prior software development experience is necessary
  • Students must be currently enrolled in IT/Computer related degree programs
  • Students will work on discrete projects to support the enhancement or creation of new insurance systems at USLI
  • Students will develop a working knowledge of object-oriented principles, requirements analysis and user cases

What are the essential functions of the student?

  • Support existing USLI applications and design/develop new efforts
  • Participate in daily huddles learning Scrum/Agile
  • Shadow and aid other IT teams
  • Research new technologies
  • Participate in college student knowledge share

List any additional duties that the student would be responsible for:

  • Students will learn about software technologies and best practices available in our work environment.
  • Collaborate with peer developers and team leadership

Additional information/notes:

  • Students will learn Object Oriented Design, Agile, Scrum, C#, Visual Studio, ASP.NET, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, MVC, Angular, SQL, Azure DevOps, R, Python, Tableau, Power BI
  • Utilize on-line learning tool
  • Students will have an assigned mentor
  • Students will work with a selected development group as part of the team
